Support

Something not working, or a new tab extension Hallway doesn’t switch? Email hello@mutabl.es and a person will reply.

It helps to say which browser you use and which new tab extensions you have installed.

Ideas

Wish Hallway did something it doesn’t? Email hello@mutabl.es with what you’d like it to do and when you’d use it. Every idea is read, and the ones people ask for most get built first.

Quick fixes

Chrome asked “Change back to Google?”

Click Keep it. Chrome sometimes asks after a new tab extension takes over the new tab.

Hallway says my new tab was turned off

Something other than Hallway turned off the new tab extension you picked: the browser (Edge sometimes does this to new tab extensions), an update that needs your OK, or a click at chrome://extensions. Hallway doesn’t turn it back on by itself, since it may have been on purpose. Click Turn it back on in Hallway, or dismiss the note to keep it off.

Hallway says an extension is “still on”

You took that new tab extension out of your Hallway but left it on, so it can take over your new tab whatever you pick. Click Turn it off to stop it (Undo puts it back), or Add it back to switch between it and the others again. Hallway doesn’t turn it off unless you click.

A new tab extension is missing from my list

Hallway asks Chrome which extensions replace the new tab, so they should all show up. If one doesn’t, open Hallway’s settings and add it by hand.

Alt+Shift+N (⌥⇧N on a Mac) doesn’t do anything

Another extension may already use that shortcut. Pick a different one at chrome://extensions/shortcuts, or edge://extensions/shortcuts in Edge.

Why does Chrome say Hallway can “Manage your apps, extensions, and themes”?

To switch your new tab, Hallway turns extensions on and off, and that’s how Chrome describes the permission. Hallway only turns on and off the new tab extensions in your Hallway, or one you took out but left on when you click Turn it off. It never installs or removes anything, and nothing leaves your browser. See the privacy policy.
