Hallway privacy policy
Last updated 24 October 2026
Hallway collects nothing. It has no account, no server, no analytics and no error reporting, and it makes no network requests. Nothing it keeps is sent to us or anyone else.
What it reads
To find the extensions that replace your new tab, Hallway reads the name, description, version, icon and Chrome permission warnings of the extensions installed in your browser. This happens on your device only.
What it stores
- Synced with Chrome sync, so your Hallway follows you to your other computers: the IDs of the extensions in your Hallway, their order, the ones you added, removed or ignored, whether the toolbar badge is on, and your schedule if you set one.
- On this computer only: the new tab you picked and the one before it; whether something other than Hallway turned it off, and whether you dismissed that note; until when a pick of your own holds over your schedule; the IDs of installed extensions, so Hallway can tell a new install from an update; for each installed extension, its version and whether Chrome says it replaces the new tab; small copies of your new tab extensions’ icons for the toolbar badge; which tips you’ve seen; and how many times you’ve switched, so Hallway can ask once for a review, and your answer.
What it does with the permission Chrome warns about
Chrome describes the management permission as “Manage your apps, extensions, and themes”.
Hallway uses it to find the extensions that replace your new tab and to turn the ones in your Hallway
on and off. It never installs or removes extensions. The only extension outside your Hallway it
ever changes is a new tab extension you took out of your Hallway but left on, and only when you
click “Turn it off”. It never changes ones your organization manages.
What it does not do
- It does not read your tabs, history, bookmarks or the pages you visit.
- It does not send anything anywhere.
- It does not show ads or notifications.
Removing Hallway deletes what it stored on this computer.
