Map Maker Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 2, 2026
Map Maker (“the app”) is a Canva app that lets you search for a location, style a map, and add it to your Canva design. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and how it’s handled.
Who this covers
This policy is for Map Maker specifically. Canva also processes data as the platform the app runs inside. See Canva’s Privacy Policy for that. This document covers what Map Maker’s own backend does.
What we collect
Your Canva user ID. When you open the app, Canva gives it a signed token identifying you. The app verifies this token and reads an opaque user ID—not your name, email, or other Canva account details. This ID is used only to count maps added to designs and remember whether you purchased the paid upgrade.
That’s the entire user record: an ID, a count, and a yes/no for “purchased.” Nothing else about you is stored.
Location searches and map data. When you search for a place or view a map, the search text and map area are sent to Mapbox, our map tile and geocoding provider. Mapbox’s handling of that data is governed by its Privacy Policy. We don’t separately log or store your search history.
Payment information. Checkout happens entirely on our payment processor’s page. We never see or store your card number, billing address, or name. The processor tells our backend only that the user with this Canva ID paid.
Standard server logs. Our backend host, Render, may keep short-lived technical logs such as IP address and timestamp to operate and secure the service. We don’t use these for tracking or profiling. See Render’s Privacy Policy.
What we don’t do
- No cookies, analytics, or advertising trackers.
- No selling or sharing beyond what is needed to run the app: Mapbox for maps/search, our payment processor for checkout, and Render/Turso for backend/database hosting.
- No collection of your name, email, or Canva account details.
Data retention
Your user ID, map count, and purchase status are kept while you use the app. To request deletion, contact us with your request; we don’t currently offer a self-service delete button.
Children’s privacy
Map Maker is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect data from them.
Changes and contact
If what the app collects or how it’s used changes meaningfully, we’ll update this document and its date.
